FG To Pay PHCN Workers’ Severance In 3 Weeks

 
The federal government yesterday inaugurated a committee on the implementation of settlement of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), staff benefits, giving it three weeks to deliver.
This is coming on the heels of an agreement signed with the power sector labour unions on the December 11, 2012, outlining payment terms, after a long - drawn battle between government and the workers who vehemently opposed the sector’s privatisation unless their severances were paid.
Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Power, Zainab Kuchi, who inaugurated the committee said it shall take into cognizance all existing laws in Nigeria while determining procedures for settlement of all due benefits to the workers.
Members of the committee are the permanent secretary, ministry of power, chairman, while the ministry of finance, labour, PHCN, Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), Accountant -Generals Office, Auditor General’s office as well as PENCOM shall have a representative not below the level of a deputy director.
